Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in the world. Its unmatched scenic beauty across the trail will keep trekkers spellbound and inspire them to continue trekking. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek, more popularly known as ABC trek, has moderate difficulties but allows trekkers to be very close to the 7000-meter mountain peak, Annapurna Massif.

Annapurna Massif consists of Annapurna I, the 10th highest mountain in the world at 8091 meters. Annapurna I is the highest point or the peak in the Annapurna Massif. Other notable peaks in the massifs are – Annapurna II (7937 meters), Annapurna III (7555 meters), Annapurna IV (7525 meters), Gangapurna (7455 meters), Annapurna South (7219 meters).

Another exciting topography of the ABC Trek is noticeable almost at the end of the trekking trails or starting near the Mt. Fishtail Base Camp. The full panoramic or dress circle view is a rugged, rocky terrain surrounded by high mountains chain and deep gorges.

A few interesting facts about Annapurna Base camp Trek are:

  • More than fifty thousand trekker treks to Annapurna Base Camp every year.
  • The Ghandruk Village on the trekking path is famously known as the model village of Nepal Himalayas.
  • Annapurna Base Camp, situated right inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, and Annapurna Conservation area consists of a large variety of flora and fauna. The site has natural habitats of about 470 birds, the rarest Blue Sheep and rarely sighted Himalayan Thar.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Drive to Ghandruk (2012 m./6639 ft.) - 02:30 hours - Trek to Chhomrong (2120m./6996ft.) - 04 hours / 12km

    Enjoy a delicious breakfast overlooking Annapurna I (8091m) and Machhapuchhre (6997m) from the terrace. Afterwards, you’ll pack your bags and embark on a two-and-a-half-hour road journey towards Ghandruk. You’ll embark on the first day and begin climbing towards Chhomrong. Overnight in Chhhomrong.

    Meals included: Lunch and Dinner.

  • Day 2: Trek to Bamboo (2335m./7705ft.)-06 hours/13km

    After breakfast, you’ll leave Chhomrong village and climb down the stone steps towards Chhomrong Khola. Enjoy the scenic view of the forested valley and Gurung settlements. Cross the Chhomrong River and climb uphill towards Sinuwa village. After enjoying your lunch, you’ll begin trekking along the narrow ridge and cross lush forests en route to Bamboo village. Overnight in Bamboo village.

  • Day 3: Trek to Deurali (3200m./10560ft.)-05 hours/12km

    After breakfast, you’ll leave Bamboo village and climb towards Himalaya Hotel. The scenic trek goes past Dovan and climbs up along the ‘weeping wall’ and a local shrine towards the Himalayas. The trail climbs over 3,000 meters in altitude and goes past Hinku Cave en route to Deurali village. Overnight in Deurali.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

  • Day 4: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m./13629ft.) -04 hours/8 km

    Leaving Deurali, the trail climbs alongside the Modi River and goes past alpine forests. You can witness the neatly decorated stack of rocks en route. The arduous climb goes past an icy cave and into Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m). Here you will have your lunch enjoying the massive view of Machhapuchhre (6997). Afterwards, you’ll begin climbing west and walk almost 3km to the Annapurna Base Camp. It may take nearly an hour and a half to arrive at the base camp. Upon arrival, you can catch the majestic sight of Annapurna I (8091m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Gangapurna (6454m), and Machhapuchhre (6997m). Overnight in ABC.

  • Day 5: Head towards Bamboo (2335m./7705ft.)-07 hours/15 km

    The day begins with an exploration of the Annapurna Base Camp. The high-altitude region offers a panoramic 360-degree view of the entire mountains. You can rejoice in the majestic views of Annapurna massif, Gangapurna, Himalchuli, and Machhapuchhre Peaks. From here, you’ll begin climbing down towards Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The trail climbs downstream along the Modi River towards Deurali village and continues to Bamboo. Overnight in Bamboo.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

  • Day 6: Trek to Jhinu Danda ( 1780m./5874ft.)- 05 hours/14 km

    Leaving Bamboo, you’ll begin climbing through lush Bamboo forests and walk along the narrow ridge towards Sinuwa village. Going Sinuwa, you’ll start climbing downhill towards the Chhomrong River. The returning trail takes a detour and begins climbing southwest through lush forests and terraced fields towards Chhomrong village. You will have lunch there, then walk steep down to Jhinu Danda. Overnight in Jhinu Danda – Natural hot spring.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

  • Day 7: Drive to Pokhara (820m./2706ft.) – 02:30 hours drive/70km. - Overnight in Pokhara

    You’ll begin the day enjoying a breakfast overlooking the massive Annapurna I (8091m) and Machhapuchhre (6997m). After a short walk to Samrung crossing a long suspension bridge, you’ll embark on a jeep and begin driving along the Baglung Highway back to Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara.
