Visit the historic Leh Palace overlooking the old town, then the hilltop ruins of Namgyal Tsemo Monastery, offering panoramic Himalayan views. Continue to the peaceful Shanti Stupa and the royal village of Stok, known for its palace and traditional Ladakhi heritage.

After lunch, visit the magnificent Thiksey Monastery, one of Ladakh’s most iconic monasteries, beautifully perched on a hilltop overlooking the Indus Valley. If time and energy permit, continue to the historic Shey Palace, once the summer residence of Ladakh’s royal family and home to a striking copper-gilded Buddha statue.

  • Day 4: Rest Day at Garkhon – Orchard Exploration & Village Life

Today is intentionally slow and immersive. Spend the day exploring Garkhon village on foot, interacting with local families, and walking through beautiful apple and apricot orchards nourished by glacier-fed streams. The Aryan Valley region remains culturally unique within Ladakh and offers an opportunity to witness traditional architecture, farming practices, local attire, and a quieter rhythm of Himalayan life rarely experienced by mainstream travellers.

Overnight Stay: Aryan Village | Bete Guest House

  • Day 5: Travel to Lamayuru & Rest at Alchi

After breakfast, journey toward the dramatic landscapes of Lamayuru Monastery, one of Ladakh’s oldest monasteries. The surrounding terrain, often called the “Moonland of Ladakh,” creates a surreal atmosphere of eroded cliffs and unusual formations. Later, continue toward Alchi for a relaxed evening near the Indus River. Alchi remains one of Ladakh’s most historically important cultural regions with ancient artistic influences preserved over centuries.

Indulge in a traditional Ladakhi lunch at Alchi Kitchen and experience the warmth and hospitality of the local women who lovingly run this charming family-style space.

Overnight Stay: Alchi | Hotel Alchi Zimskhang
    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 6: Alchi to Nubra Valley via Khardung La

Today begins a little early. For those who enjoy monasteries and peaceful spiritual spaces, a visit to Alchi Monastery offers a calm and deeply enriching start to the day. Known for its ancient wall paintings and Indo-Tibetan artistic heritage, the monastery carries a timeless atmosphere that many travellers find peaceful and meditative.

After the monastery visit and your prayers, begin an exciting drive toward Nubra Valley, crossing legendary Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable mountain passes. Take a photo stop and enjoy some footloose moments near the giant Maitreya Buddha statue at Diskit Monastery. Feel the fresh mountain air and take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the Nubra Valley.

Later descend into the high-altitude desert region of Nubra. Arrive at Hunder, famous for sand dunes, double-humped Bactrian camels, and contrasting mountain scenery. The valley’s unique blend of desert terrain, green villages, and snow-covered peaks creates one of Ladakh’s most unforgettable landscapes.

    Overnight Stay: The Creek, Diskit
    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 7: Excursion to Turtuk Village – Overnight Stay in Turtuk

Drive toward the remote border village of Turtuk, one of the northernmost accessible villages of India near the Pakistan border. Historically part of Baltistan, Turtuk offers a distinctly different cultural atmosphere from central Ladakh. Explore stone pathways, Balti homes, traditional irrigation channels, orchards, and local cafés while enjoying stunning Karakoram landscapes. Staying overnight here allows a deeper connection with the village’s unique heritage and warm local hospitality.

Staying in Turtuk feels truly otherworldly. As you slowly approach the village, settle into our handpicked boutique stay, Virsa Baltistan. Experience authentic Balti hospitality, peaceful surroundings, and the quiet charm of life near the frontier.

In the late afternoon, explore the village at your own pace, enjoy a heritage walk, or relax at nearby eateries like The Balti Kitchen or Nomad Hungers.

At night, you may have the opportunity to experience a traditional Balti mehfil, where local villagers perform folk songs and dances under the starry Ladakhi night sky. (Please connect with the hotel reception regarding the availability of this cultural program on that specific evening and the necessary arrangements.)

Leave Turtuk and journey deeper into Nubra Valley toward the peaceful village of Sumur. En route, visit Panamik, known for its natural hot springs and beautiful mountain surroundings near the Siachen region. Compared to the busier Hunder side, Sumur offers a calmer and greener atmosphere with willow-lined roads, traditional homes, and quieter Himalayan landscapes ideal for a restful evening.

Once again, in this remote Himalayan landscape, enjoy another one of our favourite stays for relaxation and comfort. Lchang Nang Retreat – The House of Trees is an eco-conscious luxury retreat in Nubra Valley that beautifully celebrates local culture, sustainability, traditional architecture, and meaningful Himalayan experiences.
