Day 1: Arrival Hanoi
Welcome to Vietnam! Arrive in Hanoi and check in at your hotel near the old quarter. Experience the charming and vibrant atmosphere of this historic city. Your exciting journey officially commences with a welcome meeting scheduled for 6 pm tonight.
You can arrive in Hanoi anytime and spend the day at your own pace before the team meeting. However, present at the team meeting with the tour guide and the leader. The meeting is essential to understand the tour requirements, disciplinary activities and the planning for the entire trip. You must submit your Travel Insurance and other necessary documents to your tour leader. Also, meet your fellow travellers and teammates.

Day 2: Preparation Day & Gear Checking
Today is a very important day for preparation for the coming cycling days. For those bringing their own bicycles, please assemble and inspect them for any transit damage before the trip officially starts. If you’ve arranged to hire a bicycle, your leader and local tour guide will help you prepare it before the first cycling activity.
After all preparation and gear checking, we will have some time to cycle and explore Hanoi city to engage in the warm-up practice.

Day 3: Hanoi Cycling Tour
Your Vietnam Cycling Trip officially starts today.
Start your day with an exhilarating guided bike ride (approximately 22 km) through the vibrant streets of Hanoi. Pedal past parks, lakes, and tree-lined boulevards, and visit iconic landmarks like the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex.
Next, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of the Old Quarter. Explore the “36 Streets” with diverse shops offering souvenirs, silk clothing, jewellery, embroidered tablecloths, wood carvings, and lacquerware.
In the afternoon, enjoy some free time to discover Hanoi further. Stroll around the beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake, or delve into Vietnamese culture at the Vietnam Fine Art Museum or The Vietnamese Women’s Museum. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a delicious bowl of fresh pho from a local street food eatery.

Day 4: Hanoi to Mai Chau
Get ready for an exciting day of cycling!
Depart from Hanoi in the morning and take a 2-hour bus ride to Hoa Binh. Once you arrive, mount your bike and ride through quaint ethnic Thai villages. Along the way, enjoy the peacefulness of the rice fields and interact with the locals. Also, admire the stunning limestone peaks and verdant landscape. After reaching Cao Phong, take a 30-minute bus trip to Man Duc for a delicious lunch.
Recharged and eager to continue, board the bus to the Da River Reservoir. Set off on a cycling journey along the Da River, passing by impressive karst cliffs and beautiful rice fields while taking in the magnificent panorama of the Mai Chau valley (approximately 20 kilometres). The quiet town of Mai Chau is in a valley surrounded by towering green mountains and is renowned for its stunning scenery and hospitable hill communities. Spend the night in a simple stilt-house homestay in Poom Coong village, where your friendly hosts will prepare a tasty home-cooked dinner. You may even have the chance to sample the region’s locally produced rice wine.

Day 5: Mai Chau – Ninh Binh
Say goodbye to your welcoming homestay hosts and set off on a bike ride from Mai Chau to Mai Hai, then to Co Luong (about 49 km). Ride through picturesque rice fields and navigate shallow potholes on the road. See farmers with their water buffalo-drawn carts, pass through quaint towns, and greet locals in beautiful Vietnam. The route features stunning green fields, tall limestone mountains, peaceful waterways, and fascinating historical sites.
A bus ride takes you along Ho Chi Minh Road with a lunch stop before arriving in Ninh Binh. If time and energy permit, you can cycle around the area to experience rural life and enjoy the countryside.

Day 6: Ninh Binh to Hue
Start your day with a cycling trip from Ninh Binh to Tam Coc and witness Vietnam’s stunning landscape. Admire the limestone karst peaks rising from tranquil rice paddies and the river meandering through the fields with boats gliding along. Cycle to Hoa Lu, Vietnam’s ancient capital during the 10th century Dinh Dynasty, and discover its historical remnants, such as archways and temples. Take a lunch break at either the Dinh or Le Temple.
Cover approximately 50 kilometres of cycling distance today before returning to your hotel by bus. Freshen up and shower before having an early dinner. Then, head to Nam Dinh to board an overnight train to Hue.
Note: The train to Hue provides overnight accommodation for your journey. The overnight train journey to Hue takes approximately 12 hours, and the conditions are basic but offer an authentic experience, allowing you to travel like a local. Travel like a local in compartments with four or six berths, depending on seasonal variations and group arrangements. Bench seats convert into sleeping bunks with sheets, pillows, and blankets provided. Some travellers may prefer to bring their sleeping sheets.
Passengers of different genders may share a compartment, and you may share with local or non-group travellers. Most trains have a dining carriage serving simple food, but you may bring your own provisions, such as fresh bread, cheese, and fruit, before departure.

Day 7: Hue Exploration
In the morning, arrive at Hue. Take a deep breath in the fresh air and saddle up for cycling again. Today will be a relaxing day as there is not much cycling. So, upon arrival in Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam, you will be ready to explore this fascinating city. A mix of lively streets and tranquil surroundings, Hue preserves Vietnam’s royal heritage.
Today, you will embark on a scenic 20 km cycling tour through the fields to explore Hue’s remarkable landmarks, including temples, bunkers, tombs, ruins, pagodas, and stunning scenery.
You will visit the Imperial Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City during your cycling adventure. Despite being heavily damaged during the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War, the atmospheric ruins provide a glimpse into the country’s wartime devastation. Take your time to appreciate the sites along the way, as there will be plenty of stops.
Afterwards, unwind in a cosy café or restaurant. Hue is renowned for its cuisine, considered by many Vietnamese to be the best in the country. Influenced by its imperial past, the food emphasizes small dishes and aesthetic presentation. The city’s strong Buddhist heritage is evident in its numerous vegetarian restaurants. Don’t miss Dong Ba Market’s hustle and bustle, where you can explore and sample various goods and food. Try local specialities such as “banh khoai,” Hue’s version of pancakes once served at Nguyen emperors’ banquets.

Day 8: Cycling adventure from Hue to Hoi An
Prepare for a day of thrilling rides and stunning views on this 80 km cycling adventure from Hue to Hoi An. You’ll start your day in Hue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ancient temples and palaces. From there, you’ll cycle through the Truong Son mountain range, taking in breathtaking views of Danang Bay. The highlight of the day is the Hai Van Pass, a picturesque stretch of highway that winds through the mountains. With an elevation of 500 meters above sea level, climbing to the top of the pass is challenging, but the views from the summit are worth it.
After conquering the Hai Van Pass, you’ll descend into the town of Hoi An. This charming town is known for its lantern-lit streets, bustling markets, and ancient houses. In the evening, you can explore the town’s many shops and restaurants or relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

As you walk past pagodas and assembly halls, you’ll see the rich Chinese architectural elements. Highlights include:

Rest of the day, spend the time at your leisure. Here is a possible itinerary for a self-guided day in Ho Chi Minh City:
Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Central Post Office, a beautiful French colonial building that is now a popular tourist destination. Next, head to Notre Dame Cathedral, another iconic Ho Chi Minh City landmark. From there, walk to Ben Thanh Market, a bustling marketplace where you can find souvenirs, clothes, and other goods.
Afternoon: In the afternoon, take a walk along Nguyen Hue Street, a pedestrian-only street that is lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants. In the evening, take a Saigon River cruise to see the city from a different perspective.
