Day 1: Arrival at Leh
Arrive at KBR airport in Leh at 3100 meters altitude. This is one of the highest airports in the world. One gets a beautiful snow-clad mountain range view from the plane, which transports you to a whole new experience ahead. Meet with your tour leader/guide and get transported to your hotel. Today rest is very important since you have reached an area with very low oxygen levels, and acclimatization is necessary. The whole day will be spent at the hotel, and you can take a short walk in the evening. In the evening, there will e a briefing regarding the trek at the hotel before dinner.

Day 2: Acclimatization Day
After breakfast today, you will visit Stakna monastery by walking for acclimatization. After lunch, visit Leh palace and Tsemo monastery and walk down to the Leh market to explore and shop. Then visit the Shanti Stupa at the end of the day and drive back to the hotel for the night.

Day 3: Trek to the Sara Camp
After early breakfast today, you will be transported to Skiu village in the Markha valley. The route goes by the Zanskar river once you cross the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. Winding along the river, which flows at the bottom of a very steep and deep gorge, boosts your adrenalin. After two and a half hours of driving, you will be dropped off at the starting point for your trek. You walk with your guide to The Sara Camping Site – about a 3-4 hour walk. The trekking gear, such as camping equipment, kitchen and staff, will drive directly to Sara and set up camp for the group’s arrival. The night will be spent in tents on twin sharing basis.

Day 4: Trek to Markha Village
The pack horses will be waiting here today, and all the trekking gear will be loaded on horseback while the group moves towards Markha village. Each member will give one bag for putting on the horses while a small day pack will be carried. The walk is short but very scenic. Markha is the largest village in the valley so far and has a few attractions, such as a monastery, and the group will visit this. Plenty of time for photography and enjoyment. Night in camp.

Day 5: Markha – Thachungtse
Today’s trek is 15 km. A 5-6 hours stretch. The trek continues along the river. Elevation of Thachungtse is 4370 m. This is the day when you start climbing gradually and get to test your endurance. Reach the campsite where the staff will set up camp. Night in camp.

Day 6: Thachungtse - Nimaling
Climb towards Nimaling at 4900 m. The coldest place along this trek. – It is a 4-5 hour trek covering a 10 km distance. – Beautiful views of peaks around here – Kang Yatse, Dzo Jongo and others.

Day 7: Nimaling – Kongmaru la - Shang Sumdo
Today is the last day of the trek. – You cross over the highest pass Kongmaru la (5260 m), and descend to Chokdo village. Your vehicles will meet you here to take you to Hemis monastery en route to your hotel. Tips will be distributed to the staff at the hotel with tea and snacks.

You will be dropped off at the airport for your homeward journey.
